word game

Word games and puzzles as well as being entertaining can also usefully serve educational purposes. Quite young children can enjoy playing the modestly competitive games, such as Hangman, while at the same time developing their language skills. Solving crossword puzzles requires familiarity with a larger vocabulary whilst successfully completing Cryptic Crosswords, where the clues themselves are in the form of sophisticated word puzzles, is generally considered as being a more difficult proposition. There are popular televised word games with valuable monetary prizes for the winning contestants. Swiftness of thought, a well-developed vocabulary, and excellent general language skills, including that of comprehension, are among the ingredients of success. Many word games enjoy international popularity across a multitude of languages, whilst some are peculiar to English-speakers.
